An interesting submission by John MacKintosh: the hourly heatmap. It shows a metric measured for every hours during 2 years! As John says on the related blogpost:

Any organisation/operation that is 24/7 will have some sort of data they can monitor via such a plot. Server loads / web traffic etc could also be analysed this way.

The code is available on github and provided below.

How can I change color palette to have more distinct colors? for example, red at maximum and almost black in minimum values
