If you do a lollipop plot to compare the value of several entities, it can be a good option to make the graph horizontal and to order the entities. (See graph #301). Moreover, if one or a few group specifically interest you, it is a good practice to highlight them on the plot. Your reader will understand more quickly what’s the story behind the chart.

To do so, you can an ‘if else’ statement to size, color, alpha or any other aesthetics. More over, it is even more insightful to add annotation directly on the chart (right chart). You can learn more about annotation here and in the ggplot2 section.
